Mr. Frederick J. Hameetman (BS '62)

Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1940, Fred Hameetman is chairman of the American Group, which comprises approximately 50 companies, corporations, and partnerships. Cal-American Corporation, a general partner of nine Cal-American Income Property Funds, currently oversees the management of more than $1 billion of real estate, representing over a million square feet of commercial and residential real estate in California and Washington. As an angel investor, Hameetman supports emerging technologies with a mission statement of providing efficiency and opportunities to consumers and business entrepreneurs.
Hameetman earned a Bachelor of Arts from Occidental College ('61) and a Bachelor of Science from Caltech ('62). He later received a Master of Science in engineering from the University of Southern California ('64). Hameetman married his Narbonne High School sweetheart, Joyce Loedige, in 1963. They have two sons, both married and law school graduates.
After graduating from Occidental and Caltech, Hameetman went to work at Douglas Aircraft as an astrophysicist and engineering supervisor. At Douglas, he supervised the Hypervelocity Impulse Tunnel, a high-speed wind tunnel, generating steady state conditions for 1/100th of a second at speeds up to Mach 30. In this tunnel, testing was conducted on antimissile defense missiles and atmosphere re-entry vehicles, the predecessor of the space shuttles. Hameetman was with Hayden, Stone & Co., a New York Stock Exchange member; vice president of Carlsberg Equities; and vice president of Funds International before buying the first of the American Group of companies in 1971. He has been a member of Young President's Organization (YPO), World President's Organization (WPO), Beverly Hills and Santa Monica Bay YPO Gold chapters, chairman of YPO Gold, and a board member of Chief Executive Organization. He is a trustee at Occidental College, Caltech, and the Hameetman Foundation.
