Mrs. Gayle E. Wilson

Gayle Wilson was a Westinghouse Scholar prior to receiving her BA with Distinction in biology from Stanford University. She was an active community volunteer in San Diego prior to marrying then-U.S. Senator Pete Wilson and moving to Washington, D.C. She was the First Lady of California from 1991 to 1999 while her husband was Governor of California. Her primary areas of focus were early childhood health and math/science programs for academically talented high school students. She is the founding chair and now chair emeritus of the advisory board of COSMOS (The California State Summer School for Math and Science.) She served as chairman and then on the board of the Center for Excellence in Education, as well as on the board of the Society for Science and the Public. She was chairman and is currently on the board of the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation. She recently retired as director of Gilead Sciences, Inc. She served on the selection committee for the GE/Reagan Scholars, on the regional selection committee for White House Fellows, and then subsequently on the National selection committee for White House Fellows.
