Elected 1980

Sid Petersen retired as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Getty Oil Company in 1984, after assuming the position in 1980. He is currently active as an investor and consultant.

Petersen joined Getty in 1955, was named controller in 1971, and a year later was Elected vice president of finance and controller. In 1973, his responsibilities expanded to include refining and distribution. Elected group vice president in 1974, he was named president and chief operating officer in 1979. He also served as a director of Getty from 1973 until 1984.

Petersen previously was on the boards of Sypris Solutions, Inc., Avery Dennison Corporation; Union Bank of California; NICOR, Inc.; Adobe Resources Corp.; Seagull Energy Corp.; Global Natural Resources, Inc.; and Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Inc.

Petersen also was previously a director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Petersen graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS in business administration in 1953.
