Joe Kiani is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Masimo, one of the world's most admired medical technology companies, is an inventor of world-changing noninvasive patient monitoring devices, a trusted voice for patient safety and care, and an advocate for peace, justice, action out of kindness, and solidarity.
Under his leadership, Masimo has grown from a "garage start up" into a successful publicly traded company (NASDAQ: MASI) employing more than 5,500 people worldwide. Joe and Masimo have been issued more than 100 and 600 patents worldwide, respectively for inventions that have helped to solve the "unsolvable" problems plaguing patient monitoring. Masimo SET® Measure through Motion and Low Perfusion Pulse Oximetry technology has been shown in clinical studies to uniquely reduce blindness in neonates, detect congenital heart disease in newborns and save lives of patients on opioids in postsurgical wards. Masimo's innovative products are used on over 100 million people a year.
Committed to patient safety, Joe founded the Patient Safety Movement Foundation (PSMF) in 2012. Each year, PSMF convenes the World Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit, where numerous dignitaries, leading experts, and hundreds of CEOs, clinicians, and patient advocates have come together to help end preventable deaths in hospitals. In January 2019, the hospitals that had joined this unified effort reported that 90,146 lives were saved annually.
Additionally, through PSMF, 100 medical device companies have pledged to share their data to make patients safer. This data sharing will help create a new ecosystem of predictive algorithms to help clinicians save more lives.
Joe serves on the Board of Children's Hospital of Orange County, Medical Device Manufacturer's Association and the Masimo Foundation of Ethics, Innovation and Competition in Healthcare.
Joe received his Bachelors and Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University.
