Mr. Benjamin M. Rosen (Chair Emeritus)

Ben Rosen is chairman emeritus of Compaq Computer Corporation and was co-founder and general partner (1981–1995) of Sevin Rosen Funds, a venture capital firm that has provided initial financing for Compaq Computer, Lotus Development, Ciena, Citrix, Cypress Semiconductor, Capstone Turbine, and more than 100 other technology companies. Previously, he was vice president and senior electronics analyst at Morgan Stanley & Co., and before that an electronics engineer at Raytheon and Sperry Gyroscope.
Rosen served as chairman of Caltech's board from 2001 to 2005. He is also an emeritus member of the board of overseers of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, an emeritus member of the board of directors of the New York Philharmonic, a former managing director of the Metropolitan Opera, and former chairman of the board of overseers of the Columbia Business School.
In 2015, Rosen and his wife, Donna, founded the annual not-for-profit ideas festival KentPresents in Kent, Connecticut.
Rosen received his BS from Caltech in 1954, his MS from Stanford in 1955, and his MBA from Columbia University in 1961. He received the Caltech Distinguished Alumni Award in 2007 and the Robert A. Millikan Medal in 2018.
