Bill Davidow received his AB, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1957, his MS from Caltech in 1959, and his PhD from Stanford in 1961, all in electrical engineering.

In 1961, he went to work for General Electric as manager of its advanced peripheral equipment lab in Mountain View, California. He joined Hewlett-Packard's data products group in 1966 as manager of marketing and was responsible for the introduction of Hewlett-Packard's first minicomputers. In 1970, he became vice president for marketing at Signetics Memory Systems, where he oversaw the specification and design of the world's first bipolar microprocessor. He worked for Intel from 1973 to 1985, serving as senior vice president for marketing and sales as well as vice president for the Microcomputer Systems Division and vice president for the Microcomputer Division. Since 1985, he has been founder and general partner at Mohr-Davidow Ventures, in Menlo Park, California. He is the author of Marketing High Technology: An Insider's View; Total Customer Service: The Ultimate Weapon; The Virtual Corporation: Structuring and Revitalizing the Corporation for the 21st Century; Overconnected—The Promise and Threat of the Internet, and The Autonomous Revolution—Reclaiming the Future We've Sold to Machines. He has also written numerous papers on microprocessors and management.

Davidow serves on the boards of the Stanford Institute of Economic Policy Research, the California Nature Conservancy, and the UCSF Foundation.
