Dr. Virginia V. Weldon

Ginny Weldon was senior vice president, public policy for Monsanto Company until her retirement in March, 1998. At Monsanto her responsibilities included identification of public policy issues affecting the company and identifying a suitable response. She was an advisory committee member of Monsanto's Board of Directors. Following her retirement, she was director of the Center for the Study of American Business at Washington University.
Weldon was chair of the St. Louis Symphony Board of Directors during a critical and successful $100,000 million fund raising drive. She received herAB from Smith College and her MD from the State University at Buffalo. Following an internship and residency in pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, she completed a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at Johns Hopkins University. In 1988 she joined the pediatric faculty of the Washington University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Monsanto, she was Professor of Pediatrics, deputy vice chancellor for medical affairs and vice president of the Washington University Medical Center. Weldon is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In May 2017 she received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Washington University in St. Louis
