Dr. Peggy T. Cherng

Peggy Cherng is co-chair and co-CEO of Panda Restaurant Group (PRG), the largest Asian dining concept in the United States and home to Panda Inn, Panda Express, and Hibachi-San.
Since joining the family business in 1980, Cherng has brought a wealth of experience stemming from her career as a leading member of the software development teams for McDonnell Douglas and Comtal-3M. Panda's consistency and global growth is the direct result of Cherng's commitment to establishing sustainable methodologies that empower associates to contribute and further their creativity and career development.
Cherng, who is considered to be the "heart" of the company, is passionate about giving back to the community and developing Panda associates. She believes everyone has the potential to be the best they can be. As PRG continues its rapid growth, Cherng continues to build an organization where people are inspired to better their lives professionally and personally. To date, PRG is a family of more than 42,000 associates and almost 2,200 restaurants in the U.S. and 12 countries. In 2019, the Cherngs were recognized for their leadership and all they have done to pave the way for others, receiving the Great Immigrants, Great Americans honor by Carnegie Corporation.
Cherng earned her MA in computer science and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri and received her BS in applied mathematics from Oregon State University. She was born in Burma to Chinese parents and was raised in Hong Kong before leaving for the United States to pursue her studies.
